Being situated on the main east/west route across the Highlands, Drumnadrochit is the ideal base to take advantage of the vagaries of the Scottish weather. When the western highlands are having cloudy, rainy weather, the east side of the country can often be bright and sunny – and vice versa.

Making Ancarraig Lodges your holiday base gives you the option to choose the best of the weather and access a range of venues within a couple of hours drive to the east or west. Fort AugustusFort WilliamThe Isle of SkyeUllapoolGairlochThe Black IsleAviemore, the Cairngorm Mountains and the Malt Whisky Trail are all easily within a round day trip.

The wonderful city of Inverness is less than 20 miles away, with its many shops and amenities and bustling nightlife. Attractions include the Castle, Museum, Cathedral and Eden Court Theatre. There is also a modern Aquadome with sports, leisure facilities and Vue Cinema.

Our magnificent rural location offers guests the unique opportunity to watch the sun climb over the mountains from the comfort of your own private decking area, whilst taking in the pure Highland air and watching the abundant wildlife. Walk straight from your lodge onto the Great Glen Way, or take a picnic up the mountain of “Meall Fuar-mhonaidh” which is the most prominent summit around Loch Ness and provides a straightforward hill walk with fantastic views of Loch Ness from over 1,000 feet above water level. On a clear day you can see Ben Nevis.

The popular village of Drumnadrochit is 3 miles away and offers a variety of pubs and restaurants, a small food market, pharmacy, bakery, hairdresser, a post office and bank with ATM. Drumnadrochit has won awards for its stunning floral displays, including the famous miniature floral castle on the village green.

There are various boat trips based in or near the village with which to explore Loch Ness (and perhaps catch a glimpse of its most famous inhabitant!) Spectacular Urquhart Castle, the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition and the Nessieland are there to educate, fascinate or add fun to your day.

Pony trekking, mountain biking or just exploring the many miles of forest and mountain tracks is all available on your doorstep.
